Today I want to answer a question I get asked fairly often, and that question is, “How do you come up with content that people are really interested in watching, sharing, and engaging with?” So, I’m going to share with you three simple tips for coming up with great content.

Number one, be interested in other people. You know there is that saying that if you want to attract people and be engaging, you’ve got to be interested in other people more than yourself. So, be intentional, look for moments of opportunity where you can be interested in others. Surprise and delight people. People don’t expect it when you go above and beyond, but be interested in other people. It’s one of the biggest ways to increase your engagement.

Tip number two, have a hyper awareness of the world around you. My good friend Lisa Escue, who’s also a member of the #GetSocialSmart Academy, said this recently in one of our Facebook Live interviews that we did. She said, “You know, I really try to be hyper aware of what’s happening around me, things that are funny, things that are interesting, things that are entertaining.” Have that hyper awareness of what’s happening around you, and that might be an opportunity to create a video, do a Facebook Live. Maybe it’s inspiration for a blog post. That can be really, really valuable.

My third tip for creating content that people will like and engage with is get over yourself. I think so often we’re afraid of what people are going to think or how we look, and the reality is that this is how we look, this is how we sound. The more you really just put yourself out there, the more comfortable you will be, the more you will really see that people resonate with you when you are true to who you are, when you’re authentic, and you lean in to who you are and who you’re not.
